Bing, Microsoft’s new search engine, designed to compete with the lead players of the industry, was unveiled by CEO, Steve Ballmer on May 28th.  The ceremony took place at San Diego.

According to Microsoft Bing is the full-fledged substitute for Live Search. The site is expected to go completely live by June 3rd 2009.

The major improvements that you can notice in Bing include the options for related searches, called “Explorer pane” which can be seen on the left side of the search results. This is based on semantic technology from PowerSet (, a search company that Microsoft had purchased in 2008. The other major options are search suggestion as you type your keyword, and a track record of your search history.
