$ 10 laptops on sale!

$10 laptops, nicknamed Sakshat laptops are soon to be launched. Indian National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) announced that Sakshat model scheduled for display in Tirupathi has 2GB expandable memory, Wi-Fi and fixed Ethernet capability, 2 watts power consumption.
Secretary of Indian higher education, R.P Agarwal who spearheaded Sakshat project said, “A lot of testing has to be done to ensure that the technology works properly. Once the testing is over, the computers will be made available on commercial basis. The target is to make it available in six months' time.”

 The low cost laptops are represented by One Laptop Per Child foundation (OLPC), aims to bring affordable computing to poor children around the globe. India’s education committee has been deeply involved in developing the laptop and the curriculum involved. Government agencies along with leading publishing firms will be working with the Ministry of India to provide required books & infrastructure to Sakshat users.

Officials promise that laptop will be commercially available in market at $ 10 in 6 months time.
